Chapter 31

Joshua could sense that Allison felt a bit out of place in the room, so he casually said, "Take a look around and let

"Hold on a sec."

Joshua stopped and turned back, curious. "What's up?"

Allison rummaged through her backpack and handed him a bottle of milk. "Joshua, could you helpget in

touch with a testing agency? I've got a feeling there might be something off with this milk."

Joshua's eyes narrowed with concern. "Is someone trying to mess with you?"

Allison nodded seriously. "Seems like it, but I'm not exactly sure. Better to play it safe."

"Got it, leave it to me."

Joshua pulled out his phone to make a call. "Hey, can you swing by? | need you to handle something important."

He walked off, disappearing around the corner.

Allison let out a deep breath, feeling her tension ease up a bit.

When she'd handed the milk to Joshua, she'd unexpectedly caught his dark eyes. For a moment, it felt like her

heart skipped a beat.

His eyes were something else.

Actually, it wasn't just his eyes. His whole face was like a work of art, enough to make anyone's heart race with

just a glance.

After Joshua left, Allison took a moment to look around the suite. It was clear someone lived here regularly;

personal belongings scattered around the living room hinted it wasn't just a quick stopover.

It was odd. The place didn't seem like a spur-of-the-moment booking. It felt like Joshua chere often.

But didn't he live in Oak Lake all the time?

Allison shook off the thought. It wasn't her business anyway.

She moved her luggage into the bedroom, realizing she only packed clothes and skincare stuff. She had no

slippers for a shower.

Just as she was debating whether to ask Joshua about it, the doorbell rang.

Allison went to answer it.

A hotel staff member in uniform stood there, holding a tray in one hand and a bag in the other. "Hi, I'm here to

drop off sthings for Mr. Fisher."

Allison took the milk and the bag from the staff. "Thanks a lot."

"You're welcome."

After closing the door, Allison looked curiously at the warm milk in her hand.

Did Joshua also have a thing for warm milk before bed? What a coincidence.

She set the milk on the table and opened the bag, finding a pair of new women's slippers, two unopened towels,

and stoiletries.

These must be for her. A warmth spread through Allison's heart; Joshua was surprisingly considerate.

"Did they bring everything?" Joshua asked, appearing at the top of the stairs.

"Yep, they did. Thanks, Joshua."

Allison looked up, meeting Joshua's gaze. Her feelings were a bit mixed.

He wasn't just the guy next door anymore; he was also her fiancé.

While they chatted, Joshua had already made his way down the stairs. "The milk was ordered for you."

"Huh?" Allison looked up, surprised. "I thought it was for you."

"I'm not in the habit of drinking warm milk before bed. Go ahead and enjoy it."

As he said that, Joshua opened the door. Somewhere along the way, the assistant she'd seen earlier in the lobby

had appeared by the door.

"Take this milk for testing," Joshua instructed.

"Sure thing, Mr. Fisher."

Closing the door and turning back, Joshua caught Allison watching him.

Her eyes were bright and curious, reminding him of a cute little animal.

It felt like a gentle feather had brushed against his heart, leaving a ticklish sensation.

He walked over, unable to resist ruffling her hair gently - a gesture full of affection he did when they were

kids. "Get srest early tonight. What tdo you want to wake up tomorrow? I'll give you a call."
